Candy Crush Saga settles dispute with CandySwipe “amicably”

Back in February, after King pursued copyright claims against games with the word “candy” or “saga” in their titles, president of Runsome Apps Albert Ransom wrote an open letter that pointed out the similarities between his game, CandySwipe, and Candy Crush Saga, which was released two years after CandySwipe.

“When you attempted to register your trademark in 2012, I opposed it for ‘likelihood of confusion’ (which is within my legal right) given I filed for my registered trademark back in 2010 (two years before Candy Crush Saga existed),” Ransom said.

“Now, after quietly battling this trademark opposition for a year, I have learned that you now want to cancel my CandySwipe trademark so that I don’t have the right to use my own game’s name.”

Ransom alleged that King purchased the rights to a game called Candy Crusher, which allowed it to challenge his own trademark containing Candy.

However, earlier this week, Ransom replaced the open letter posted to his website with the following message:

“I am happy to announce that I have amicably resolved my dispute with King over my CandySwipe trademark and that I am withdrawing my opposition to their mark and they are withdrawing their counterclaim against mine.

I have learned that they picked the CANDY CRUSH name before I released my game and that they were never trying to take my game away. Both our games can continue to coexist without confusing players.”

Back in March, The Banner Saga developer Stoic also said it reached an agreement with King, which enables both parties to protect their respective trademarks. King has since abandoned its efforts to trademark the word “candy.”

Games News – Grid Autosport Revealed and Given Release Date

Top Friv games – Grid Autosport, an all-new instalment in Codemasters’ racing series, will be released on PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3 on June 27th in Europe and June 24th in the US.

Over 8 Titans –– the largest ships in EVE Online –– have already been destroyed, giving rise to the 1 trillion Interstellar Kredits (an in-game currency) of damage.

The fight erupted when the N3 Alliance, an in-game faction, missed a payment on a station used as a staging ground for the “Halloween War,” an EVE Online press release reads. The missed payment resulted in a drop in sovereignty across the local system, leaving it up for capture; the CFC and Russian Coalition then took the station. The current battle is a result of the former owners’ counterattack to retake the station.

“Supposedly, it was set up for auto-pay, just like any other bill in real life, but either that didn’t happen or the money wasn’t in the wallet, and then everything just escalated out of control from there,” James Carl, a member of the Pandemic faction, told CBS News. “The dust is still settling on that issue. Everyone is just focused right now on fighting to try to regain control of the system.”

Business – Cisco to cut 4,000 jobs despite strong profits

business opportunities – Network equipment giant Cisco Systems has announced plans to cut 4,000 jobs, about 5% of its workforce.

The news came after it reported net income of $2.3bn (£1.5bn) in the fourth quarter, up from $1.9bn a year earlier.

Cisco’s chief executive John Chambers said that “the economic recovery is slower and more inconsistent”.

The cuts come as the company looks to reduce costs as it sees demand for its networking equipment remain uncertain.

Cisco also predicted that its revenues in the current quarter would be at the lower end of analysts’ forecasts.

Its shares fell more than 9% in after-hours trading.

‘Quick reallocation’

Mr Chambers said the job cuts were due to weaker sales in Japan, China and Europe, which had weighed on revenue growth.

“The environment in terms of our business is improving slightly but nowhere near the pace that we want,” he said. “We have to very quickly reallocate the resources.”

It is the latest round of job cuts at Cisco as the company restructures its business, moving away from consumer products.

Cisco – which is the world’s largest manufacturer of network technology equipment – is often seen as a bellwether for other technology companies.

Its fourth quarter results had been in line with expectations, with revenues up 6% to $12.4bn.

Y8 – Atlus has launched a new teaser website for what may be a Persona-related announcement of some sort coming in November.

The website, located at, is home to very little at the moment beyond three empty boxes and a time and date: November 24, 2013 at 8 p.m. JST (which equates to 3 a.m. Pacific / 6 a.m. Eastern on November 24). What’s most interesting is that alongside the Atlus logo is the logo for the Persona team, perhaps suggesting the long-awaited Persona 5 will be announced at that time.


The most recent release in the Persona series, Persona 4, was released on PlayStation 2 in 2008, before being re-released on PlayStation Vita last year as Persona 4: Golden. Rumors in 2009 that Persona 5 would be announced for PlayStation 3 never panned out, though the game was reportedly in development at least as early as 2011. Fifteen years ago, we initiated research directed at more fully understanding these barriers and at developing tools and strategies for breaching them that could be of use in basic research, imaging, diagnostics, and medicine.

At the outset of this research and now to a lesser extent, the “rules” for drug design biased the selection of drug candidates mainly to those with an intermediate and narrow log P. At the same time, it was becoming increasingly apparent that Nature had long ago developed clever strategies to circumvent these “rules.” In 1988, for example, independent reports documented the otherwise uncommon passage of a protein (HIV-Tat) across a membrane.

A subsequent study implicated a highly basic domain in this protein (Tat49-57) in its cellular entry. This conspicuously contradictory behavior of a polar, highly charged peptide passing through a nonpolar membrane set the stage for learning how Nature had gotten around the current “rules” of transport.

As elaborated in our studies and discussed in this Account, the key strategy used in Nature rests in part on the ability of a molecule to change its properties as a function of microenvironment; such molecules need to be polarity chameleons, polar in a polar milieu and relatively nonpolar in a nonpolar environment. Because this research originated in part with the protein Tat and its basic peptide domain, Tat49-57, the field focused heavily on peptides, even limiting its nomenclature to names such as “cell-penetrating peptides,” “cell-permeating peptides,” “protein transduction domains,” and “membrane translocating peptides.” Starting in 1997, through a systematic reverse engineering approach, we established that the ability of Tat49-57 to enter cells is not a function of its peptide backbone, but rather a function of the number and spatial array of its guanidinium groups.

These function-oriented studies enabled us and others to design more effective peptidic agents and to think beyond the confines of peptidic systems to new and even more effective nonpeptidic agents. Because the function of passage across a cell membrane is not limited to or even best achieved with the peptide backbone, we referred to these agents by their shared function, “cell-penetrating molecular transporters.”
